OUR QUEENS

Meet the queens

Three colonies, each with its own queen and its own character.

Queen Elizabeth among worker bees

BLUE MARK · 2025

Queen Elizabeth

Balmoral Hive

Elegant and composed, Elizabeth is a Buckfast queen — a line known for producing calm, friendly bees. She presides over a busy, well-ordered colony with a reassuringly steady temperament.

White-marked Queen Victoria among worker bees

WHITE MARK · 2026

Queen Victoria

Osborne Hive

Regal and purposeful, Victoria has a strong presence on the comb — surrounded by her court and quietly getting on with the serious business of running her colony.

White-marked Queen Boudica on brood comb

WHITE MARK · 2026

Queen Boudica

Castle Hive

Bold, golden and impossible to overlook, Boudica is also a Buckfast queen — known for producing calm, friendly bees. Distinctive on the frame, she still has plenty of presence and every bit deserves her formidable name.

Why are queens marked?

Beekeepers use an international five-colour convention for queen marking. The colour identifies the year the queen was born, making her easier to spot and helping us keep accurate records.

Our apiary currently has one blue-marked queen from 2025 and two white-marked queens from 2026.
